Perspectives
Artists: Trey Watkins, Cameron Brown, Alex Rinsler & Sam Jellyman. Supported by a generous grant from the Black Rock Arts Foundation.
Perspectives was an installation piece we built in London 2012 as part of the Southbank Centre Festival of the World. This co-incided with the 2012 London Olympics, so while we have no exact way of knowing we believe this project was seen by at least 5M people!
- We built and hung giant children's blocks of varying sizes off Royal Festival Hall
- There were two special viewing points where the blocks would all "line up" neatly and spell out messages
- These messages changed several times over the summer (by rotating the blocks)
Written on the placard:
Colourful children's blocks of varying sizes are scattered over and above Festival Terrace - stand in the right places and they line up to reveal hidden messages. Perspectives encourages you to look differently at familiar objects and at the world around you. The blocks contain a number of messages which will be revealed over the course of the summer."
As well as participating in the design and build, my contributions included:
- 3D previz - building out the site in SketchUp to calculate the sizes/distances needed to create the "perspective" effect
