Reason Tips

I am a long-time user of the Reason 12 DAW. This is a list of my ”notes to self” about how to use it! I've mainly used it on Windows, I am in the process switching to Mac.

Keyboard Shortcuts

🎹 Devices

• Browse patches: Ctrl + B
• Create instrument: Ctrl + I
• Create effect: Ctrl + F / Command + Shift + F
• Duplicate track/device: Ctrl + D

🎼 Sequencer

• Nudge (snap unit): Ctrl + left/right
• Nudge (beat): Ctrl + Shift + left/right
• Nudge (tick): Ctrl + Alt + left/right
• Parameter Automation Shortcut: Alt + click control
• Correct pitches: Ctrl + Shift + C
• Pencil tool: Edit velocity of selected only: Shift + click
• Merge note lanes: Ctrl + R
• Quantize: Ctrl + K
• Hand tool: U
• Join clips: Ctrl + J

🎚 Mixer

• Detach Main Mixer: Ctrl + F5 / Command + F5
• Route to new output bus: Ctrl + G

⏯ Transport

• Go to start of song: Numpad .
• Go to loop start/end: Alt + left/right
• Set loop to clips: Ctrl + L
• Set loop to clips and play: P

🤷‍♂️ Misc

• Zoom in/out (horizontal): H/G
• Toggle zoom extents: Z
• Scroll: Shift + mouse wheel
• Zoom: Ctrl + Shift + mouse wheel
• Select previous/next clip: left/right

🍏 Mac

• Toggle zoom extents: Z (This is not a toggle on Mac 🤔)
• Scroll: Shift + mouse wheel
• Zoom (Horizonal): Command + Shift + mouse wheel
• Zoom (Vertical): Command + mouse wheel
